What the glaze does

We mix this glaze to sit still in the heat, so the finish stays even across the piece and from one piece to the next.

Buy the cheapest set

The Bosmarlin Ceramic Marbling Souffle Dishes seem of good quality. I have had them for a number of months (closer to a year now) and they have shown themselves not only to be adept at holding a souffle, but at holding fresh raspberries, seeds, etc., etc., and have thus become regularly used around the house. However, for whatever reason, the color has come off them. The ones most frequently used are now nearer white than pink (I bought the pink set), and I cannot help but imagine that all shall go this direction.

Pretty and pink, very handy.

Love these bowls. They are the perfect size for snacks. And so pretty too. They wash up easily in the dishwasher.

Best soup bowls ever!

I love French onion soup and needed a specific sized bowl. I also needed at least 5 bowls for my family. When I saw these they were perfect for what I dreamed of!! They are a beautiful marble design. Looks classy! They stack well ina cupboard but could be displayed because they’re beautiful to look at too! The price is unbeatable! I have used them in the microwave and oven and they clean nicely. Would highly recommend and buy more if I wanted more for my set.

Exactly what I was looking for!

I needed an oven-safe and microwave-safe round dish for making microwave English muffins and this is perfect. Not only are they they a nice size (measures 4 inches across on the inside), but the handgrips on the side stay cool making it safer and easier to handle. They clean easily and are stackable, so they don't take much room in my cupboards. They are very sturdy and will be useful for many other purposes. And wow, some of the best packing I have ever seen. They could have probably been dropped from a 10-story window and still remained intact!

Perfect size and so cute!

I purchased these ceramic marbled ramekin's abut 2 months ago, and I just love them. The pink color is very pretty. I have used them in the microwave, the oven and the air fryer for serving individual sized deserts and soups. The 10 ounce is the perfect size, no overflow when baking. The handles are very useful, they do get hot when baking (another reviewer said they didn't). They clean up very easily in the dishwasher or by hand washing. I highly recommend these.

What you are holding

The same eight things are true of every piece we make.

Fired hard

Stoneware fires dense, so it holds heat and shrugs off the knock against a tap.

Glaze that moves

Mineral oxides travel in the heat, so the firing draws the line between colours.

Handles for full mugs

A large mug carries a handle you can put a whole hand through.

Made to stack

Wide feet and even rims, so a shelf of them sits flat.

A Bosmarlin mug in a reactive glaze

Dishwasher and microwave

Stated on nearly every piece in the range, and true of the glaze rather than a hope.

No two alike

Speckles land differently and a fade can sit higher or lower on the next piece.

Lead-free and cadmium-free

As stated on the range. The care page spells out what that means.

Sized for real drinks

From 8.5 oz for a cappuccino to 50 oz for a mug of soup.

Stoneware, porcelain and earthenware

Three words used loosely on the same shelf. They describe how hot the clay was fired and how much water it will still absorb, and that difference decides how a piece behaves in a dishwasher, in a microwave and against the edge of a sink.

Stoneware, what we make

  • Fired hot and dense, so it absorbs almost no water
  • Heavy in the hand and stable on a desk
  • Chips are rare, and a chip does not soak up coffee
  • Holds heat noticeably longer than a thin cup

Porcelain

  • Fired hot too, but thrown thin and light
  • Elegant, and far easier to chip on a tap
  • Cools faster because there is less body to hold heat
  • Usually sold as a full service rather than by the piece

Earthenware

  • Fired lower, so the body stays porous
  • Depends entirely on its glaze to hold liquid
  • A crazed or chipped glaze lets the body absorb
  • Lighter and cheaper, and shorter lived in daily use

The three words describe firing temperature and how much water the fired body still takes up. Everything else follows from that.
