What the glaze does

Reactive glaze carries mineral oxides that travel while the piece fires. Thickness, kiln position and the shape underneath all pull the boundary between the colours around, so speckles land differently and a fade can sit higher or lower on the next piece.

Slightly smaller than stated

Gorgeous cup and saucer, well made, beautiful finish, and extremely well packed in a lovely box suitable for wrapping or placing in gift bag. It's amazing and I'm happy with it, but there is a very tiny issue with the listed size. The cup is supposed to hold 8.5 ounces, but as 8 ounces will fill the cup and overflow, I cannot use it when preparing 8 ounce Keurig/K-pod beverages. (See image) That said, I love this cup and saucer set and will use it when making tea. I will likely order at least one more as the blue color does go well with one of my Hall teapots; so a small tea set created with these cups and saucers would be nice to have. It's also a nice size if you have an espresso machine and like to make smaller cappuccino and latte beverages.Definitely recommend because it is so well made and comfortable to hold, but if you're looking specifically for something to hold 8 ounces I'd recommend purchasing a larger size.

Perfect Cappuccino Mugs

Got these to make cappuccinos and lattes at home. I wanted attractive mugs with the right shape and a smaller size so that I could get the right proportions of milk and foam while using 2 shots of espresso. These are perfect. They also look great and are beautifully glazed, but are sturdy enough for everyday use. I’ve also found that they’re perfect for tea so I’ve been using them for that too even though that’s not what I originally bought them for! So now I’m planning to buy a couple more in one of the other colors as well. I would definitely recommend these to anyone.

Good durable latte cup

Great cups, have been using regularly for 6 months or more. They are the perfect size for a double espresso and about a half cup of milk before foamed. No issues with going in the dishwasher after every use. No chips or breaks when they were received and none since either.

Would make a nice gift for a cappucino lover

I bought two of these because they are the perfect size for cappuccino. They look very nice, the color is beautiful and it comes well packaged if you plan on giving this as a gift to someone. But be warned - if your friend is actually a coffee drinker, they may find this dainty little cup a tad small - and prefer a mug. Even a tea drinker might find it too small to be useful, as would someone used to three sizes of "latte."In the 1980s, before coffee shops took over the world, I worked in an espresso place where in lieu of "small" "medium" and "large" we simply had "espresso" "cappuccino" and "cafe latte." Honestly if someone had ordered a "latte" back then, it would have been interpreted to mean steamed milk - possibly with one of the those flavorings - - but if you didn't specify you wanted a shot of espresso in there by ordering a "cafe" latte, no one would have made the assumption you wanted caffeine. If you get what I am talking about and this makes sense to you - - -lol - - you'll know what I mean when I say this is PERFECT for cappuccino.

Perfect espresso mugs

I use these every day. Gorgeous mugs, and comfortably fit in my Gaggia Classic Pro.

Gorgeous, sturdy!

I bought this cup and saucer for the lovely blue glaze, and have enjoyed every morning coffee or tea since. It's a good size, feels good in my hands, and is sturdy enough that I don't feel the handle will break away as with some smaller cups. It's dishwasher safe, too. When it arrived, it was well-packaged with thick plastic foam plates on all six sides of the box and a cardboard fitting to hold it in place. I couldn't detect any internal motion when I picked up the box at all. I'm very satisfied, to the point that I also bought the mug, the cereal bowls, the pasta bowls, and the plates when each came up for sale.

My special morning ritual

I had 1 of these for a few years, as I was the only cappuccino drinker in my house, until recently. It is my morning ritual to make my cappuccino using this cup. So I got another one so I have a matching set and don't have to share with my other cappucino maker. Beautifully made, great quality and long lasting.

What you are holding

The same eight things are true of every piece we make.

Fired hard

Stoneware fires dense, so it holds heat and shrugs off the knock against a tap.

Glaze that moves

Mineral oxides travel in the heat, so the firing draws the line between colours.

Handles for full mugs

A large mug carries a handle you can put a whole hand through.

Made to stack

Wide feet and even rims, so a shelf of them sits flat.

A Bosmarlin mug in a reactive glaze

Dishwasher and microwave

Stated on nearly every piece in the range, and true of the glaze rather than a hope.

No two alike

Speckles land differently and a fade can sit higher or lower on the next piece.

Lead-free and cadmium-free

As stated on the range. The care page spells out what that means.

Sized for real drinks

From 8.5 oz for a cappuccino to 50 oz for a mug of soup.

Stoneware, porcelain and earthenware

Three words used loosely on the same shelf. They describe how hot the clay was fired and how much water it will still absorb, and that difference decides how a piece behaves in a dishwasher, in a microwave and against the edge of a sink.

Stoneware, what we make

  • Fired hot and dense, so it absorbs almost no water
  • Heavy in the hand and stable on a desk
  • Chips are rare, and a chip does not soak up coffee
  • Holds heat noticeably longer than a thin cup

Porcelain

  • Fired hot too, but thrown thin and light
  • Elegant, and far easier to chip on a tap
  • Cools faster because there is less body to hold heat
  • Usually sold as a full service rather than by the piece

Earthenware

  • Fired lower, so the body stays porous
  • Depends entirely on its glaze to hold liquid
  • A crazed or chipped glaze lets the body absorb
  • Lighter and cheaper, and shorter lived in daily use

The three words describe firing temperature and how much water the fired body still takes up. Everything else follows from that.
